Terminal

Yoko Naito Photo Exhibition

"PressRelease is available to download here in English, German and Japanese"

"Terminal" is the latest series from Japanese photographer Yoko Naito, capturing the scenery around the terminal train stations in Berlin and superimposing on the current social situation and her personal feelings. Ms.Naito received one of the most important international photography competition,"Sony World Photography Awards" in 2015. This exhibition "Terminal" is the first solo exhibition on this series and held at aquabitArt Gallery in Berlin.

The project "Terminal" started when she visited Berlin in 2015. At that time, the inspiration for the work was a route map of the train lines in Berlin.
Ms. Naito visited the terminal stations of each line in Berlin using the map, and captured a fresh impression of the scenery and the unfamiliar place around them in her camera.
In 2016, she left New York which had been a base for about seven years and moved to Berlin. This led to the project being further developed and completed.
In this series, her photographic point of view doesn't just incorporate the moment spreading in front of her eyes, but also appeals to deeply psychological things that project her feelings of leaving the familiar place behind and the unstable psychological emotion for living in an unfamiliar place.
She projects this emotion on the landscape of the terminal stations in Berlin. Her gaze also takes in the social problems such as refugees, occurring in the Europe of today,
and eventually evokes various emotions of curiosity, expectation, hope, tension, uncertainty, anxiety and loneliness by a cause of evacuation.
Ms. Naito corresponds these emotions to the current social situation through the medium of photography.
The tranquility and tension of the world view in her photograph depict an unstable emotion and a fragile situation in the general life.
This project doesn't conclude the final destination but encourages us to a possibility of our choice in life.
